How to fly your flag longer for home, business, or yourself?

It is important to take the appropriate steps to protect your flags from the affecting factors and preserve the lifespan of flags. Some proper protection can help ensure that your flag lasts longer and stay brighter.

1. Determine the Material of your flags

To keep your flags last longer, one of the most important things you should be keeping in mind is the material the flag is made out of. Most US flags and banners are made of cotton, nylon, or polyester. Each material has its own unique feature, which is a major factor in deciding the flag’s aesthetic value and durability.Cotton flags are the best suited for indoors or short periods with the breeze outside, but they are hardly survived in bad weather conditions. Nylon is comparatively more lightweight and durable, is suitable for both indoor and outdoor in light to medium winds. However, nylon is also more cost-effective than other materials. Polyester has great outdoor lifespan. This material is heavier than nylon and cotton,  is suitable for flag flying in extremely windy weather conditions.

2. Properly Clean & Care for your flags

Cleaning flags is not only possible but highly recommended to help them last longer. There are some easy tips to clean your flag:

• For nylon, polyester, or other synthetic materials: You can wash your flags in the washing machine with cold water and mild detergent. Hang them dry from a clothesline, or lay flat to dry. Use a cool iron to remove wrinkles.
• For cotton or other natural materials: It is best to hand wash or dry clean with oxygen-based blench. Rinse in cold water, and then hang or lay flat to dry. Use a hot iron or steamer to remove wrinkles from natural fabric flags.

3. Repair & Dispose of your damaged flags

As long as the flag is serviceable, it is acceptable to repair minor damages, such as tearing or fraying. You can repair it by yourself or bring it to a seamstress as a safer option. If the flag is worn, damaged, or tattered beyond repair, you should take it down immediately. The dignified way to dispose of your U.S. flags is preferably by burning.
